Social Security Number Verification
If you are an employer it is required that you do a social security number verification on any new employee you might hire. This is to verify that the individual is a US citizen and registered with the social security office. All of this person's wages will be reported under this number and if it does not belong to this person there is a potential problem. There are cases where social security numbers are purchased on deceased individuals and sold as good numbers. This is actually not the case when an individual is deceased and the death certificate is filed that persons social security number is cancelled and from then on reported as a number belonging to a deceased individual. The number can never be reused by another person. The social security administration has set up a whole division tracking the use of these bad numbers mostly by illegals. When you do a social security number verification it will come back telling you the name matching to the number. You as an employer will know right away if it is a good number or not. You probably will not want to employ someone who does not have a good matching social security number.
